I am loving this thread.
I tried a something new yesterday and I highly recommend it.
It's easy, cheap and very filling.
I got the idea from chestnut burgers I made. I noticed how thick and meaty they were so thought I'd make a chestnut roll.
I used creamed chestnuts from a can and also bought the filo pastry frozen because I was in a hurry.
I emptied the chestnuts into a bowl and added breadcrumbs, italian herbs some cumin and seasoning.
I then laid out the filo pastry, put the filling on top, wrapped it up and put it in the oven for 30 minutes on gas mark 6.
I then put tomatoes, spinach, water and a splash of cider vinegar into a saucepan and cooked till they had reduced slightly.

^ That looks really delish Karmafunk.
That looks really good Karmafunk - Chestnut roll , I must try that ,
Here's what I had for dinner tonight, quite simple spinach salad with purple cabbage coleslaw ( chopped cabbage, grated carrot, onion in a Vegan mayonaise, paprika dressing) with steamed sweet potato and green beans,
^ yum. I loved sweet potato.

I just ate dinner. But the pictures look so good. I could eat again!

oh be quiet my rumbling tummy.... it's another half hour or so until lunch! argh........
Looks awesome Clipper drinking choc is my fave. I melted a Bendicks Bittermint chocolate into mine the other day and it was yummy choccy minty goodness!
When I try handling the foam, I usually screw up though. My boyf. has an electric frothy thing (ooh-er!) that does a good job, but the froth gets too light. I guess there's an art to it! (or I'm in a greedy rush to drink it and make a mess as a result!).
grrr how do you post photos on here please?
Upload them somewhere that allows remote linking (such as flickr), then surround the url of the photo with
Use a separate flickr account to your personal one (if you have one) to stop people from easily finding it.

*droolyface*
We need food name labels!!
Each snowflake in an avalanche pleads not guilty.
Labelled up now ruby!
eta cedar I'd already had the cannoli which I knew was delicious from a previous visit but I wanted to try the peanut butter bliss so I took it home.
Over almost 3 weeks I ate loads more meals out than those above but I didn't always take photos.

Too good for words
I really need to get to NYC soon...it's only 4 hours away....I could be there for a late dinner!
It all looks delicious Marrers!
tabbouleh-bouleh
Big pile of roast for me again tonight.

The food looks scrummy! I'm 25 this year and I wanna do something special.....NYC is very high on my list although I vowed never to fly again in 2006 because it's far too traumatising for me.

The taste of anything in my mouth for 5 seconds does not equate to the beauty and complexity of life.
hope you can gather the confidence if you really want to do it, emzy - or catch the boat across!
I can't find any boats!

There is no boat access to America except for cars, as I looked it up too. I HATE FLYING!! lol
Beanstew - I want to make a roast now. I keep saying want to make a roast, as it annoys non-vegan "friends" who like to go...AHAHA I knew it!!

you can get passage on cargo vessels but it is very pricey and food is not something you have much choice over so it's not a good option for vegans.

Ooooh Marrers, that all looks soooooo good. I'll be in NY for a week in June. I can see I'll have to not eat for a couple of weeks in advance so I can make the most of it!
This is what I had for dinner
Kale, Coconut, greencurry with Buckwheat noodles,

Apologies, the Clipper Drinking Chocolate is vegan, the Instant Hot Chocolate (which I had) is not. And anyway it was horrible. Hopefully the Drinking Chocolate is nicer, I might give it a go.
Chili (veggie-mince, kidney beans, black beans, courgette, mushrooms, onions, celery, tomato, garlic, peppers, spices) with brown rice tonight.

marrers- that food looked like art!!
Are there any London-based restaurants that make dishes that look that grand? The 'fanciest' veggie restaurant I've been to is Demuths (in Bath).
I like to make cocoa with G&B organic 100% cocoa powder, brown sugar and rice milk (oat milk is good too, it seems to come out thicker and creamier) and sprinkle ground nutmeg on the top.

It is fantastic, it's really important to use a rich and good quality milk alternative with it, personally alpro sweetened or sainsbury's sweetened (same thing) is the nicest, Rice milk is a bit too weak really and needs reducing in the pan on a lower heat, oat mil has a fairly strong taste but can work pretty well too.
