Would you vote Obama or McCain?

Barack Obama has my vote.
Mine too. Too bad the rest of the world doesn't get to decide.
Obama definitely!
Just to keep that mentalist Palin out, Obama gets my vote.
And the fact he's not a nutter.
Obama
who's mccain then?

I didn't realize that such a small percentage of American people voted. Wow, I am appalled . I will be voting in November, and if I had to vote tomorrow, I think I would vote McCain. But, I really don't like either candidate . Usually when I don't like either one I vote for one of the underdogs.
Thankfully I have a few weeks to do some research.
Cows milk for baby cows, Human milk for baby humans.
Another option, if you want to be a 'World Ambassador', would of course be to vote for the candidate that most people outside US would have chosen, since political decisions made in the US of A often influence conditions outside the US voters' territory...Usually when I don't like either one I vote for one of the underdogs.
But we in The Rest of the World have absolutely no idea how the candidates appear to the American population. I mean, for us, George Bush has always come across as a virtual cretin - it seemed overwhelmingly unbelievable that he could win an election TWICE - and yet I understand that to the American electorate he came across as a "good ol' boy" with a down-to-earth common sense who would protect America's interests, right or wrong.
I saw a documentary showing that the main people in the company who developed the digital voting system were Republican campaigners earlier - and that the system allowed them no enter a booth during the actual election and reset/change the vote counts. The indications (that there was corruption involved in the digital voting process) were so convincing that I didn't trust them.
It differs. Republicans and Democrats think in opposite ways. And I'll NEVER understand the republican way of thinking. It's too selfish.
Oh, and about Bush being elected. The election was fixed...
Gore won the popular vote and still lost... Which shows how screwed up the system is. And after Gore was basically declared the winner, they recounted Florida and bickity bam, Bush won....weird...Considering Bush's brother was the governor of Florida, or something like that.
My vote would go to Obama

dont even get me started.
Obama

I voted Obama, I really hope he wins
obama.
but i have an awful feeling it will be McCain.
"i'm rejecting my reflection, cause i hate the way it judges me."
I thought so too but after watching Obamas speech a few weeks ago i actaully changed my mind and am pretty sure he will now become Americas first black president. He was coherant, confident and gave hope to the people. He will be good for the USA.
Watching as an outsider though his foreign policy leaves a lot to be desired and that is how WE will judge him. For a start his views on the escalating conflict in Pakistan don't fill me with hope that America won't continue to alienate large sections of the world and turn them against the West.
Disobedience is the true foundation of liberty!
^ I guess we will see...perhaps its just the area i am in...there are lots of republicans around here...
"i'm rejecting my reflection, cause i hate the way it judges me."
That would sure cloud your view, lol!
One thing that seems slightly overlooked in the media though is that a few republican votes are not gonna go to McCain because he is, at 72 and with his health record, statistically, more likely to die or suffer some catastrophic illness during his first term than any other man that has sought the office.
And no one bar the far right, seems to trust Palin to take over so the more 'liberal' republicans will be abstaining!
Disobedience is the true foundation of liberty!
i've actually had quite a few people say that they only reason they are voting for McCain is BECAUSE of Palin. I don't understand why though, she is absolutly terrifying.
"i'm rejecting my reflection, cause i hate the way it judges me."
they are thats the scary thing!

Obama.

I can't speak for the whole of my country, but in Maine most of my republican acquaintances equate democrats to taxes. I live in Portland, which is the largest Maine city(comparable small to other states). Property tax increases continually happen to fund city services (welfare programs).
My republican friends are mostly of the baby-boom age bracket, they are closing in on, or have retired. Taxes scare the bejesus out of these people due to the unknown of "Life after Retirement". I think this is one reason for the 2nd term of "W". "Keep taxes low and my pension will carry me further"
The other reason I think he was elected again was the leadership during 911. Be it as is(was), whether the Iraq invasion was warranted or not, George Bush did lead this country through one of it's scariest times in recent history. We are lucky here, we normally have no foreign acts of terror (just home-grown). Americans woke up when that happened. Democrats, as well as, Republicans wanted justice, revenge, whatever. They just didn't want it to happen again. George Bush represented strength to us.
After that long winded excursion, I'll be vot'n 4 Bama
I feel the same way. Both elections were fixed/stolen, not won. There was voter fraud in Florida in 2000 and in Ohio in 2004.
This time around (again) it shouldn't even be a contest. Obama should be a shoo-in, but I am worried that honestly he is too intelligent to get elected by my fellow Americans. The whole thing is discouraging.
lol Gogs...ya i'm too young but just from ur description i can see a resembalance.
"i'm rejecting my reflection, cause i hate the way it judges me."
^ I'm glad I'm not the only one creeped out by Palin.
The problem is that even American citizens are unaware that their voting is rigged - it doesn't count one vote one person, and when George W got in first, it was some half a dozen judges who actually decided the outcome. The US has a very weird and undemocratic system even though people there seem to believe that theirs is the only democracy in the world.
Eve
I'd place money on the fact that it won't be Obama
"Mr Flibble - forum corruptor of innocents!!" - Hemlock
Vava, I'm guessing Eve is referring to America's "Electoral College"
my son is living in the states and thinks the debates will be interesting - he says that obama is a more eloquent off the cuff speaker than mccain - and it is sometimes the debates that win or lose the election for potential candidates. Unfortunately, I think if Obama gets in he will be assasinated. I hope I am wrong but I think there are a number of rednecks still around that would not be able to stand the idea of a 'black' president.
BTW is that a real thank you miss bettie or sarcasm?
even perfect isn't perfect - Rubyduby 4th July 08
its sarcasm...i'm sorry for being a snot!!! but i mean come on, there are many of us that DO believe the same thing that Eve stated...perhaps i shouldn't have been rude but please don't assume.
again i'm sorry.

The thing is, the majority of people who don't vote are lower to mid class. It's not so much that they don't care enough to vote, but that they have an opinion, and don't take the effort to vote. Even if you take the effort to register to vote, you still pretty much have to take a day or half a day off of work to stand in line at the polls. People just think it's not worth it, and our society just sort of supports that view.
Personally, I think that registering to vote should be automatic when you renew or get your driver's liscense, instead of being a serarate paper to fill out that you have to specifically request. I also thing that Super Tuesday should be a national holiday, and make it law that places that are open will allow employees some time of the day to vote. We also need more voting stations and a better system for those who man them.
I think that here in the UK too they are not doing enough to increase the voting turnout. We do have hundreds and thousands of local polling stations, so you don't really have to queue up, and they are open from very early until really late on election day. They have also increased the postal voting system, although there are still flaws. Part of me has a niggling feeling that they don't try harder to increase the turnout, because the people who don't vote wouldn't vote for them - and would vote for more extreme, one-issue candidates. Who knows.
I used to think that voting should be compulsory - after all, my great-grandmother's generation were prepared to go to prison or die for the right to vote. I've become very disillusioned with national party politics in the last five years, but I still feel voting at local elections effects change in my community, so I always vote in local elections.
