no, they are not 'perfect' for smoothies but definitely still smoothies and smushes it all up and if you keep going for a minute gives a perfectly adequate one, albeit a more pureed one if you don't...
perhaps you could buy one of those little stick hand blenders - that's what i use. they're quite cheap in the UK, i don't know about canada though.
